Okay, I’m not sure how this is going to come off especially so close to my other questionable post about Dunkin Donuts but here goes….. Martin Scorsese is set to bring to the screen a biopic of Frank Sinatra. This effort has the full backing of the Sinatra family and, because of that, is supposed […]

I wouldn’t call myself a Trekkie or a Trekker. However, I would call myself a fan of the Star Trek series. I know some terms that complete non-fans wouldn’t likely know (for example, that TOS stands for “The Original Series”) but I wouldn’t do very well on Star Trek trivia. Before I get to the […]

An effort that suffers from trying to cover too much material on one film.

The next movie on my hit list is State of Play. This is a fairly forgettable, and yet solid, effort featuring an all-star cast including Russell Crowe, Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren and Robin Wright Penn. The film focuses in the rising career of a young congressman (Affleck) and a time-worn investigative journalist (Crowe) who are brought together by a […]

Saw two films this week and nearly forgot to mention one I’d seen a couple of weeks ago. Yes, it’s been that busy around here. At this pace it’s going to be a challenge to see a lot of films at the theater. Anyway, a couple of weeks back I saw the Dreamworks animated movie […]

Just yesterday I caught the next “Apatow-like” movie called I Love You, Man. Like the others in this continuing genre, it includes alums from some of the others in the group. It’s getting to the point where a flow-chart might be fun. Anyway, when I saw the previews for this one it looked a bit dull […]

I had a pretty interesting week for movies. I managed to catch two different films that were on opposite sides of the spectrum in nearly every way. First up was the Nicolas Cage sci-fi thriller, Knowing. This might turn out to be the best “worst” film of the year. It was almost universally panned except […]

This past weekend found me at the theater for my first official 2009 movie, The Watchmen. The movie is taken from a highly-celebrated and successful graphic novel of the same name. The movie also was the focus of legal wrangling that threatened to derail the entire project. If you don’t know the story (and most […]

Next up for me is Coraline, a 3D stop-motion film, that very much has the look of Nightmare Before Christmas. The makers made sure to hype the fact that Coraline is brought to you by the same people the gave us Nightmare. This is about as accurate as stating that an Apple sales clerk brought us the iPhone. The idea […]

This past week I caught two movies. The first was the much-advertised Taken starring Liam Neeson. Unless you just never turn on a TV then you’re more than familiar with the commercial showing Neeson talking to his panicked daughter hidden under a bed and telling her, “They’re going to take you” just before she’s snatched […]

Another year, another compilation of the movies I saw over the past year and to crown one as the best film and worst film that I saw all year. 2008’s movies have taken me nearly into February to see the full lot. I didn’t quite get up to last year’s 58 but still managed to […]

This week I got out to finally see Clint Eastwood‘s Gran Torino. It’s been said that this will be his final movie as an actor. We’ve heard that a lot of previous older actors only to have them change their mind later. We’ll see. The movie really is a complete vehicle for Clint Eastwood. It […]
